Testimonials:

Sarah Ho is not only a dexterous musician and performer, but also a brilliant teacher who transformed my world as a young musician. I came to Sarah at age 10 with only the very basics of violin to build off of, despite having played for two years prior. Immediately, she had me working out of some basic books and theory workbooks to improve my technique and ability to read music. After two years of struggling over these things, Sarah Ho helped me to permanently correct them within a few months, even weeks. She also worked on other lively pieces and two books of Disney movie songs with me, which I enjoyed greatly, for I felt she was always pushing me to improve. And I certainly WAS improving.
Within 6 months of when she and I began playing together, Sarah organized a violin recital for her students, which I performed in. It was the first solo I ever played, and though I was nervous, I was confident Sarah had prepared me more than thoroughly. I also played Canon in D with a small group of adults, which is an achievement I still pride to this day, as it was a piece which I felt was far above my skill level at the time. Somehow, through her diligent patience, kindness, and expertise, Sarah made it happen for me. I feel Sarah has a unique perspective and attitude toward teaching both adults and children. With me, not only was she patient beyond compare, but she always managed to make our lessons an extremely fun, enjoyable experience. I wholeheartedly recommend her to any violinist in need of a little (or a lot of) guidance, as perhaps she can transform you as she did me.

Age 13

First when I decided to start learning violin, I was a bit hesitant because how difficult I heard learning this instrument is and my age, which is 28, that its a late start. All these negative thoughts were gone since my first lesson with Sarah.
She is so skillful and positive. She changed my idea about learning and made it easy for me. Classes are fun and enjoyable. She insists in repeating and doesn't move on to the next step until she is confident that I did the first right. Can't wait until I get more of these lessons. And hopefully better in playing the violin.

My 8 year old daughter takes violin lessons from Sarah Ho and she loves her.  I couldn't recommend her more highly.  My daughter looks forward to her weekly session and enjoys every minute of it. She is always smiling and so proud of her playing during the lesson. Sarah uses games and lots of fun techniques to learn the basics. Sarah has a way of making learning the violin fun which is important to me so my daughter keeps with it. Sarah is incredibly patient, encouraging, extremely positive and motivating all at the same time. As a result my daughter's confidence has increased tremendously. She enjoys playing and practicing the violin.  And what's most special about Sarah is how much she genuinely cares about her students, she isn't just a music violin teacher, she is a kind, caring, dedicated lovely human being. Please give her a try, you won't be disappointed by any means.

How violin enhances plasticity and brain development

A fascinating aspect of neurological development is that regardless of size, more brain tissue is allocated to parts of the body that are used more often (e.g., fingers vs. back) in the area of the parietal lobe that processes tactile information. This also applies to practice, in that the violinists have more tissue in the area representing the left hand. Plasticity is greatest during early development.

Plasticity means that brain development is shaped by experience, which implies the importance of a stimulating environment. More brain tissue is allocated to organs that are used most often. New neural connections (dendrites) are formed in direct response to environmental stimulation.

Sensory and motor abilities develop with experience, and new learning causes a massive increase in the brain’s neural connections.

Why learn music?

Learning music prepares an individual for the rigors of school and employment. Studies by top universities have shown that learning music helps children with their reading, writing and math skills. In childhood, neural connections between brain cells form in response to learning and experience. More neural resources are allocated to brain areas associated with greater usage. As the saying goes, “Use it or lose it!”

Additionally, music is inherently mathematical; the intervals in scales, arrangement of keys and subdivisions of rhythm all follow mathematical principals.

Finally, playing violin in orchestra provides an avenue for a child to connect with other musicians and build teamwork, listening skills and friendships. The benefits are countless!
